Students of the University of Nevada, Reno participate in the 66th Annual Session of the Model United Nations of the Far West representing the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela

From April 15, 2016 through Monday afternoon April 18 took place in the city of San Francisco the 66th Annual Session of Model United Nations of the Far West (MUNFW). This year’s theme is “Implementing the Sustainable Development Goals”, agreed by the UN Member’s states in December 2015 during the COP21 held in Paris.

MUNFW is one of the original and oldest MUN simulations in the world.  It focuses on academic excellence, authenticity and emphasizes the interdisciplinary nature of international relations and global issues. At this year’s session, there will be over 500 students from universities around the United States and from the Philippines, about a third of whom will be international students. Among them, students of the University of Nevada, Reno represented the Delegation of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Due to their excellent performance, they attained a Diplomacy Award for Outstanding Policy Papers. Under the guidance of Dr. Todd Smith, the students Emma Briceño, Jackson Clague, Jeffrey Domínguez, Mike Kostak, Alana Ridge, Lucía Segura and Iris West formed the Venezuelan’s negotiator team. Congratulations to all of them for the recognition received!

The 2030 Agenda of Sustainable Development comprises 17 objectives and 169 goals that cover: No poverty, Zero hunger, Good health and well-being, Quality education, Gender equality, Clean water and sanitation, Affordable and clean energy, Decent work and Economic growth, Industry, innovation and Infrastructure, Reduced inequalities, Sustainable cities and communities, Climate action, Life below water, Life on land, Peace, justice and strong institutions and Partnerships for the goals.
