Bolivarian Government Has Invested $550 Billion in Social Development Over 10 Years

In the past 10 years, the Bolivarian Government has invested $550 billion in the nation’s social development, said President Nicolás Maduro on Monday.

He explained that the money had been allocated to projects in the fields of education, food production, health, culture and housing.

“In all over these 10 years—the latest figures from the year 2013 will change the results—we have invested $550 billion into our country’s social and economic development, as well as infrastructure.  $550 billion of the $770 billion we earned as income,” the President said in a press conference.

Economic Growth

In the same press conference, Maduro emphasized that Venezuela had economic growth of 1.6% this year.

“We achieved growth of 1.6% in the real economy and it is a distributive economy, because in other sorts of economies, growth refers to capital.  This is real economic growth distributed amongst society,” President Maduro said.

He then indicated that Venezuela’s economic growth is an expression of the nation’s economic model.

“Next year I am sure we will at least double that rate [of economic growth], and I call on all of Venezuela to work.  Let’s work! Let 2014 be a year of work,” he added.

Fighting Corruption

President Maduro also affirmed that any political leaders involved in corruption or any other type of irregularity will be prosecuted, regardless of what party they belong to.

“Whoever is involved [in corruption], where they may be.  Neither the United Socialist Party of Venezuela nor the Great Patriotic Pole will shelter anyone,” he declared.

The President reiterated that the fight against corruption will continue. “None of the revolutionary parties will shelter anyone [accused of corruption],” he added.
