Venezuelan Foreign Minister: Relations with the US are Frozen

"Diplomatic relations between Venezuela and the United States remain frozen, and no change is expected as long as the U.S. government maintains what Caracas considers interventionist activities,” said Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elías Jaua on Monday.

Speaking during an official visit to Mexico City, Jaua said that Venezuela’s Bolivarian Government hopes for a “real and authentic” ratification by the administration of President Barack Obama regarding interventionist activities against the countries of Latin America.

In an interview with the news network TeleSur, he said that the recent revelations by the New York Times regarding spying by the National Security Agency on the government of Commander Hugo Chávez are "not a surprise" to Venezuela.

"What these revelations do is put in evidence once again the reasons for which we have unfortunately not been able to have good relations with the United States," he said.

A month ago, Venezuela expelled three functionaries of the US Embassy in Caracas for their participation in acts of destabilization with right-wing groups in Venezuela.

"Because of cases like this he froze that effort initiated by Secretary Kerry and myself in July of this year,” Jaua said.
