Nearly 58% of Venezuelans to Vote for President Ch?vez

According to a poll conducted by the Venezuelan Institute of Data Analysis (IVAD), voter preference for current Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez reached almost 58.7 percent last month, while the opposition bloc had 30.4 percent.

The poll, based on research conducted by IVAD from June 2011 through April 2012, states that core vote support for Chávez – that of the most solid supporters – reached 47.7 percent, while core vote support for the opposition stood at 20.1 percent. Meanwhile, the less certain “soft vote” in favor of Chávez reached 10.1 percent.

“In total, the gap in favor of the Chavista bloc (27.4 percent) comes from the strong vote with a growing tendency. Five months before the election, it’s a tendency with few possibilities to be reversed,” the analysis states, according to Venezuelan journalist Jose Vicente Rangel.

Additionally, the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) has a 45.7 percent approval rate among Venezuelans, up 12 percent over the last 10 months. The PSUV has a favorable gap of 23.6 percent over other parties.

The remaining parties in the Venezuelan political arena altogether “have decreased to 11.5 percent in 10 months, and it’s a sharp tendency,” according to the IVAD poll.

Just four opposition parties have over 1 percent of the projected vote: Primero Justicia with 8.2 percent; Acción Democrática with 4.2 percent; COPEI with 2.6 percent and Un Nuevo Tiempo with 2.4 percent.

The parties with the steepest loss in support are Patria Para Todos, Poyecto Venezuela, Acción Democrática and Un Nuevo Tiempo.
